How to be Noble, 101 Shortcuts
Daggerford is a town that lies along the Shining River on the Sword Coast in the Western Heartlands. The center of town is walled in with a population of approximately 900, with a number of outlying hamlets, farms and estates bringing the population to over 2,000.
The town is strategically placed along the Trade Way and fortified by the local duke’s dwarven-crafted castle. It is primarily a farming community, but a desire to grow and be seen as an alternative to the northern city Waterdeep has caused the town to actively seek craftsmen and artisans. Its streets are unpaved and many of the buildings are ramshackle in appearance, although the Waukeenar Duke appears to be changing this.
Surprisingly, there is a wandering bank that accepts deposits, does currency exchanges, and sets up other business between the varied cities also thrives here.
The church of Lathander has a presence here, including a church. Among the agents of this church are a high priest, and a mysterious gunslinger, both of whom have expressed interest in hiring adventurers for an as-yet-unknown task.
There is a secret trade of magical items, most of which flow in from the east from a wizard of bad, though not explicitly evil, reputation. The items change hands in a gambling tavern in town, though they all end up getting sold in Waterdeep: this is generally not a place to buy magical items, and if so, not legally. Thoradin let slip to the Duke of this trade’s existence, though the Duke’s interest did not betray if he wanted this illegal trade gone, or if he was merely interested in taking a cut of the trade that went through his city.
